Alberta Green is the original founder and director of what was once called Green's Shelter for Women. The name changed in 2003 to Green's Home For Women and again in 2010 to Teague's Home for Women in honor of the family that donated the current home for all the residents. The name changed provides a more accurate account of the mission.
She was born in Robeson County on August 30, 1922. She grew up in Cumberland County along with her 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
Her marriage to an Army Paratrooper allowed her to see much of the world, including Japan and Germany, where her son, Richard, was born in 1957.
Alberta Green accepted Christ at the age of 13. Most of Alberta Green's life has been spent trying to help people. She founded and worked at Samaritan Good Will Center for 27 years. Originally a halfway house for women getting released from prison, Samaritan Good Will Center was changed in 1987 to Maranatha Ministries.
Alberta Green became familiar with Southview Baptist Church through Bible Study held at the Samaritan Center. She joined the church about 7-years ago and due to her faithful membership and deep love for humanity, Southview Baptist Church has wholeheartedly supported her vision with financial assistance and donations.
Alberta Green retired and left for California to live with her son in May 1999. After a visit back here in August 2000, she saw that there was still a great need for a place where women could go for help, both physically and spiritually. She opened Green's Home For Women in October of 2000 and with the support, love, and prayers of her fellow church members and the community, she now has 13 women and one child in residence and is hoping to be able to have more beds available in the near future with the intended renovation of the upstairs room.
Alberta Green firmly believes that all the blessings she has been given and is able to pass on to others are a result of God's goodness. She gives Him all the praise and glory, for she knows that without Him, none of this would be possible.
It was a heavy heart the day Ms. Alberta Green passed away!!
The Lord welcomed Ms. Alberta with open arms on March 28, 2012.
Ms. Alberta touched thousands of lives...anyone who had the privilege to know her or become part of her strength, will always remember and miss her.
